In May of 2013 old corrugated pipes that controlled the water flow under the Railroad tracks between Lake Lanier and the overflow spillway collapsed and contributed to the flooding all along Atlanta Highway, Mulberry Street and Spring Street.  Norfolk Southern is busy replacing the old and failing  corrugated pipes with box culverts in an effort to avoid future flooding.

The current work is being done between Lake Lanier at the City Park and the overflow area along Atlanta Highway. Once completed at the park Norfolk will move down closer to the Flowery Branch Waste Water Treatment Plant and repair those pipes.
