12-16-08 West Hall 8th Grade Art Class Designs FB Christmas Card
In November of 2006 Art teacher Jeannie Sandoval contacted the City of Flowery Branch and inquired what was a project the school art students could do for the City. It was decided that the students could design the Flowery Branch Christmas card with the chosen artist to receive a visit and a certificate from the Mayor. And so the tradition began.
This year the Mayor requested the students draw a picture of the Flowery Branch downtown if it were to snow. On December 16, 2008 Mayor Hirling visited the West Hall 8th grade art class taught by Jeannie Sandoval and stated that it is always hard to choose just one design as there are so many submissions that are worthy of printing. The winning entry this year was from 8th grade student Monica Sandoval. Her theme was downtown Flowery Branch in a snow globe. After the winner is presented with a certificate and a framed card signed by the Mayor the class receives cookies as part of a thank you for participating. The school is also awarded a plaque of the winning card for there already full trophy case!
As Mayor Hirling drove out of the parking lot she was heard saying: Merry Christmas to all and to all a good night!!
