Ms. Annie Duke Lane Dedication
On August 5, 2009 the City of Flowery Branch Mayor and Council honored the memory of Ms. Annie Duke by unveiling a new road sign naming the new well road after Ms. Annie Duke. Many friends and family gathered for the unveiling of the new street sign. Ms. Duke was a long time member of the First Baptist Church of Flowery Branch as well as a very much loved member of the Flowery Branch community! In 2008 the City worked with the Church trustees to secure the property where the current Well #3 resides. Well #3 pumped 3.6 million gallons of water last month averaging about 118,000 gallons of water a day for the Flowery Branch community, that is about 58% of the City supply. This purchase of the property from the church and the completion of the Well touch the entire community by supplying a large amount of water to the Flowery Branch residents. Ms. Annie Duke also touched the entire community through her farm stand and famous Kudzu Jelly as well as her connection with the Flowery Branch Homemakers Club, her published cookbook of secret recipes and just opening her house to any and all that wanted to come for a visit or a good old fashion lemonade on the front porch! Thank you Ms. Annie Duke - your memory will live on forever!
