Mayor Hirling Resigns

On May 23, 2010, after 18 years of residency, Mayor Diane Hirling submitted her resignation to the City and its residents effective May 31, 2010. The news came as a shock to City staff as Diane has been a much loved Mayor for the last 4 ½ years to both staff and the community. Staff was very excited for Diane as her and her husband will finally get to retire in its entirety, but very sad to see them go! Mayor Hirling said “ We may be moving to Florida to retire but I will keep in touch and check in with staff as I love the City of Flowery Branch and will miss it very much.” On Tuesday June 1st, 2010 staff had a very tearful going away party for Mayor Hirling where she received her official gavel mounted on a plaque. Good Luck Bob and Diane!!! You will truly be missed!!!!
