Christmas Card Winner

For the fourth year in a row West Hall Middle School students have designed the City of Flowery Branch Christmas Card.

It all started four years ago when Mrs. Jeannie Sandoval contacted the City and inquired of there was an art project her West Hall Middle School 8th grade students could do for the City of Flowery Branch. After many ideas had been tossed around the idea of having a contest to design a Christmas Card for the City using a theme Mayor Hirling chooses each year. This year was no different, Mrs. Sandoval’s class turned in 40 different Christmas themed pictures that were required to contain the City’s name somewhere in the design. Mayor Hirling reviewed the pictures and said she was amazed and baffled as she had a hard time choosing which picture to select as the official Christmas Card.

Once a card is chosen Mayor Hirling makes a visit to the class and announces the winner. Of course the students don’t know who has won but Mrs. Sandoval is good about keeping a secret and letting the parents know so that they may join the class for the presentation! Once the awards are presented to the student and an award to the school the class joins the Mayor in a cookie treat!

This year the Mayor was honored to present this year’s award to Yennifer Clarin!!!! Mayor Hirling presented a framed card from Yennifer’s design with the back of the card indicating the creator as Yennifer. Mayor Hirling further notified the class that the City of Flowery Branch Christmas Cards are sent all over and include recipients such has Representative James Mills, and Senator Lee Hawkins.
