City Council Unanimously Passes Resolution and Ordinance to be Recognized as a Certified City of Ethics

At its meeting on January 13, 2004, the City Council unanimously passed two pieces of legislation which bring the City one step closer to being recognized by the Georgia Municipal Association (GMA) as a "Certified City of Ethics." Council members first passed an Ethics Resoltution which calls upon them to:

1. Serve Others, Not Ourselves
2. Use Resources with Efficiency and Economy
3. Treat All People Fairly
4. Use the Power of Our Position for the Well Being of Our Constituents
5. Create an Environment of Honesty, Openness and Integrity

Following the passage of the above Resolution, members then passed on first reading an Ethics Ordinance which creates, among other things, an Ethics Board comprised of citizens. Once the Ordinance is passed on second reading at the January 27th meeting, the Ordinance and Resolution will be submitted to the GMA for review and for the granting of the designation.
