Atlanta Falcons Make History at Summer Camp
Published: 08-01-2005
The Atlanta Falcons made history during the first week of their summer training (July 25-31) when they moved their training to their headquarters and training camp in Flowery Branch and had a ribbon cutting ceremony for the new $50 million facility that will house players, coaches, and guests during the grueling camp. The Falcons are the first team in the NFL to have such a facility at their training camp. Team owner, Arthur Blank, noted that the facility will allow players and coaches to be closer to their families during the training. Player representative Patrick Kearny summed it up when he said, Mr. Blank has given us everything we need to be number one, and in return he expects us to be number one. Every one of the players thinks that is a great deal.

The first week of camp, which drew an estimated 7,500 -10,000 people to Flowery Branch, went off without a hitch. Fans had a great time watching the training sessions up close and being able to obtain autographs after the training sessions. Extremely hot weather on opening day, followed by rainy weather for the rest of the week, did nothing to keep the fans away. The dedicated employees of Flowery Branch put in countless hours to make sure that the event went smoothly. Special thanks goes to Chief Lanich and the Police Department, John Goddard, Larry Butler, and the entire Public Works Department. We would be remiss if we did not also extend a thank you to Hall County for helping out by providing deputies and EMTs thanks to all of you! During the ribbon cutting for the new facility, Mr. Blank thanked the Atlanta Falcons staff, the city of Flowery Branch, and the builders for their intense efforts to make sure that everything came together. Coach Mora echoed those comments moments later.
The Falcons now travel to Tokyo to play the Indianapolis Colts in the American Bowl. After returning from Japan, the Falcons will have a second week of summer camp open to the public beginning on August 9th and running through the 12th.
Flowery Branch welcomes all of its visitors, and we hope that your visit with us is as pleasant and comfortable as possible. |
