Officer Saves Life - Receives High Commendation
Published: 07-14-2005
Officer Eric Cook was presented with the Life Saver Medal on Thursday, July 14, 2005 at the City Council meeting. Officer Cook’s wife and daughter were on hand to witness the proud moment. The award stems from an incident on April 19, 2005 while Officer Cook was on his normal patrol and came upon a suspicious vehicle parked in a dirt area. Officer Cook, realizing that this was not a normal place for a vehicle to be parked, decided to investigate further.

Officer Cook questioned the woman as to why she was at the subject location, but the female asked Cook to leave. Noticing that the female appeared tired, her speech was slurred, and that she had tears running down her face, Officer Cook immediately requested emergency medical treatment at the location. Officer Cook contacted Poison Control to receive instructions for treating the person until medical help could arrive. Officer Cook found that the female had taken a large quantity of strong medication and was in the process of actually writing a suicide note when he arrived. If Officer Cook had not investigated this incident, the female would have died within thirty minutes from the overdose. The Community applauds Officer Eric Cook for his heroism in the line of duty.
